This section showcases works inspired by the Rorschach test. Hermann Rorschach, a psychiatrist and occasional artist, just took sheets, pored ink on them and folded them to get abstract symmetrical forms supposed to stimulate the imagination of the viewer. As a scientist in the early 1920’s, he showed his forms to hundreds of test subjects, compared their associations and established a connection between certain interpretative patterns and personality structures. I create accidental forms in the same way and let them trigger (my own or other’s) memories about objects, forms or sceneries. The actual work consists of illustrating these associations and framing the blots in a way that underlines the visual quality and mysteriousness of their random forms. If there is more than one blot on a page, different association chains get interwoven and condense to a new narrative space. If you like to know what the same inkblots can inspire to different people, please click here.
